Pioli unveiled as new Fiorentina boss

Stefano Pioli begins his new job as Fiorentina head coach after signing a deal with the Serie A side on Tuesday.

The 51-year-old former Viola centre-back and captain, who played over 150 times for the club between 1989–1995, has previously coached the likes of Parma, Chievo and Lazio.

He was last in charge of Inter Milan, in the recently completed season – for just six months before being sacked with three games to play.

He has signed a two-year deal with Fiorentina and replaces Paulo Sousa, who steered the club to an eighth-placed finish last season.

A club statement read: "Fiorentina announces the club has reached agreement with Stefano Pioli, who will take over as first team coach.

"The new coach will sign a two-year deal, with the option of a third."
