Newcomers to golf might not realise just how much the equipment has advanced since the early days of the game.

Originally made entirely of wood, golf clubs gradually saw the introduction of steel shafts and then metal heads – with modern clubs now sporting all manner of advanced technology, from graphite shafts to composite metal heads.

The end result of all that innovation is that golfers can now hit the ball further than ever and with more control than ever – but how would they cope when forced to play with the technology of old?
