Maverick Viñales raced to his first ever podium finish at an action packed Le Mans MotoGP on Sunday.
The Suzuki rider claimed third place at the French track for his first rostrum placing in his second year in the premier class.
Viñales took advantage of Aleix Esparago’s breaking error on lap four to move into sixth place.
After Marc Marquez and Andrea Dovizioso went off the track in almost identical fashion, Viñales found himself in prime position for a top three finish.
While he came under pressure from Dani Pedrosa, the Spaniard would hold on for a memorable finish.
“We did a good job today, it was a difficult race,” said the 21-year-old in the post-race press conference.
“The first few laps were so so difficult, I fought with Aleix, then I recover and I feel good on the bike and I push push push until I was third.
“I was just controlling Pedrosa but I was feeling good on the bike.”
