Arrivabene: Qualy difficulties must be resolved

In the wake of the Spanish GP where Ferrari struggled to get the most out of their tyres, they have confirmed Sebastian Vettel for Day One of this weekend’s Spanish test.

While Kimi Raikkonen was second in Sunday’s 66-lap Barcelona race, Vettel finished third and later revealed that he struggled for pace on Pirelli’s medium tyres.

Added to that, the Scuderia were lacking during Saturday’s qualifying and found themselves lining up behind both Mercedes and Red Bull Racing.

As such, team principal Maurizio Arrivabene has revealed that tyres are one aspect that Ferrari will focus on over this week’s two-day in-season test.

“The difficulties seen in qualifying must be resolved beyond anything,” he told Motorsport.com.

“The engineers have figured out what went wrong. They will make the necessary checks in Tuesday’s test, and I hope that a quick solution is found.

“It is not a problem that just emerged this weekend – but has been dragging on for a while. On some tracks, you see it more, on others less. But it needs to be solved.”

Testing begins at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya on Friday.
