Chaz Davies erased any memories of his Misano crash by going quickest in Friday's opening practice session at Laguna Seca.
Three weeks ago, the Welshman went down in dramatic fashion before colliding with Jonathan Rea on the final lap of the opening WorldSBK race at Misano, sustaining a vertebrae fracture and a left thumb contusion.
He was passed fit to compete in California this week, however, and wasted little time in returning to his best.

Davies led the session virtually from start to finish, his fastest lap time of 1m 23.425secs a full six tenths up on his nearest rival Eugene Laverty.
Laverty set a late flyer to split the two Aruba.it Ducatis, with Marco Melandri following just a tenth behind in third.
Championship leader Jonathan Rea followed in fourth for Kawasaki, just ahead of Leon Camier and team-mate Tom Sykes.
Althea BMW's Jordi Torres and leading Yamaha rider Alex Lowes were seventh and eighth, with Stefan Bradl the leading Honda in ninth and Xavi Fores rounding out the top 10.
Bradl new team-mate Jake Gagne – riding a second Honda for the first time since the passing of Nicky Hayden in May – was 16th quickest.
