Jonathan Rea secured the final pole position of the 2017 World Superbike as he edged Alex Lowes under the lights at the Losail circuit on Friday night.
The World Superbike riders began their farewell to the 2017 season in Qatar on Friday night with the final superpole of the season.
2017 championship Rea set the early pace with a 1'56.933, 0.6s up on Lowes.
Tom Sykes, who is tied with Davies on 363 points in the battle for second in the championship, was third while his Aprilia rival was down in seventh place.
Out for a second run with the Pirelli qualifying tyre on the bikes, Rea upped his pace to a 1'56.228 – a new lap record for pole – to secure the final pole position of the 2017 WSBK season.
Lowes bounced back to finish second, 0.447s off the pace, while Sykes will join them on the front row having qualified third.
Sykes was 0.835s slower than his Kawasaki team-mate while Davies failed to shine on the qualifying rubber, finishing down in eighth place.
Lorenzo Savadori was P4 ahead of Xavi Fores, Eugene Laverty and Michael van der Mark.
Marco Melandri, who broke down late in superpole, was ninth ahead of Jordi Torres.
