The country continues to prepare for its obligations as hosts for one of the biggest sporting events in Asia — the 2019 South East Asian Games slated on November 30 to December 11.

The Philippine SEA Games Organizing Committee (PhilSoc) recently released the official schedule of the 56 multi-sporting events, which will be contested by the 11 participating nations in multiple venues in Metro Manila, Clark, and Subic.

The country’s two favorite sports basketball and volleyball are split into two categories — with the former having a 3×3 and 5v5 variation, while the latter will have a beach and indoor variation.

Last year’s Asian Games gold medal winners Hidilyn Diaz (Weightlifting), Yuka Saso, Bianca Pagdanganan, and Lois Kaye Go (Golf), and Margielyn Didal (Skateboarding/Roller Sports) are expected to once again come up with strong showings in front of the hometown crowd.

This year’s biennial meet will also feature Esports for the first time ever, with six medals up for grabs in video game titles like Dota 2 and Starcraft for PC, Tekken 7 for console, and Arena of Valor and Mobile Legends for mobile.

PhilSoc, meanwhile, has been ramping up its efforts to ensure all venues are up to the highest standards by rehabilitating the Ninoy Aquino Stadium (venue for Weightlifting and Taekwondo), Rizal Memorial Stadium (Football Men’s) and the PhilSports Complex (Volleyball, Badminton).

The Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation (PAGCOR) has reportedly donated more than half a billion for the financing of the refurbishment of the said venues. PAGCOR chief Andrea Domingo facilitated the generous donation and personally handed the check to was the one who turned the check personally to Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) Chair Butch Ramirez.
