Gilas Pilipinas Men’s 3×3 continues its immaculate run in Day 2 of the 2019 SEA Games Men’s Basketball Tournament, racking up two straight wins in their last preliminary games at the FilOil Flying V Arena on Monday.
The quartet of Jason Perkins, CJ Perez, Moala Tautuaa, and Chris Newsome made quick work of Malaysia and Cambodia, as they emerge as the clear-cut favorites for the gold medal, which will be contested later this afternoon.
Perkins and Tautuaa’s inside-outside game was just too much for the Cambodians, as they got clobbered by 15 points, 21-6 with still 2:20 to spare.
Tautuaa’s two-handed jam at 2:40 mark was the icing on the cake in the Philippines’ perfect run in the first ever 3×3 tourney in the biennial meet.
Philippines defeated Malaysia, 21-9, earlier in the day. They bucked yet another slow start after falling behind early against the Malaysians. Newsome got it going late game and delivered the winning bucket with minutes to spare.
The Women’s 3×3 team are also advancing to the semifinals later this afternoon after going 4-1 in the preliminary stage.
