A penalty due to delay in the game after excessive time was used on the break, nearly cost Philippine snooker duo Basil Alshajjar and Michael Mengorio the match. The Filipino tandem got their act together rallying in the fourth frame of their best-of-five encounter with Indonesia’s Wirawan Putu Edi and Khristanto Dhendy on Tuesday at the Manila Hotel.
Given an opportunity to get back at the table, Alshajjar rallied the squad from a 36-0 deficit in the fourth frame and completed the comeback for the Filipinos, who defeated the Indonesian pair, 3-1, and advanced to the quarterfinal round.
Alshajjar maintained composure even after they lost the third frame due to a penalty and allowed the Indonesians to gain some new lease in life.
But the cool and calculating cue artist slowly but surely sank one ball after another and catapulted the Philippines’ comeback and the win. The Pinoys inch closer to the medal round with the win.
