A number Spanish tennis players including Rafael Nadal took to social media to congratulate countryman Garbine Muguruza on winning the women’s singles title at Roland Garros on Saturday.
The 22-year-old fourth seed defeated world number one Serena Williams 7-5, 6-4 to win her first grand slam singles title on Saturday afternoon in Paris.
Nine-time Roland Garros winner Nadal, who had to pull out of the fourth round of this year’s event due to a wrist injury, put a post up on his Facebook page saying “Congratulations Garbiñe by your victory at Roland Garros. Very good news for the Spanish tennis!”.
Roberto Bautista Agut, who lost to Novak Djokovic in the fourth round, tweeted “Arrolladora @GarbiMuguruza !!! enhorabuena campeona @rolandgarros !!”
