Nadal unstoppable as he storms to 10th Roland Garros title

Nadal delighted with improvement on clay from Madrid to Rome during Tsitsipas win

Rafael Nadal continued his incredible form as he demolished Stan Wawrinka in straight sets in the final of Roland Garros to claim a historic 10th title in Paris.

There was an air of inevitability about the men’s side of things at Roland Garros this year.

No one really knew how Andy Murray’s side of the draw was going to play-out but everyone had a strong feeling that Nadal was always going to be there at the end.

And so it proved. Wawrinka did incredibly well to reach the final, navigating past the likes of Gael Monfils, Marin Cilic and Murray. However, Sunday was always going to be a step too far.

Nadal’s entire game has been firing on all cylinders for the entire clay court season in 2017 and his dominance continued in the final.

It was a complete performance from the Spaniard as he out-served, out-hit and out-ran his Swiss opponent.

The writing was on the wall early in the opening set for Wawrinka. While he was able to keep tabs with Nadal for the first five games, he was under immense pressure and it eventually told in the sixth game when Nadal broke.

Thereafter the floodgates opened as Nadal made it rain winners and Wawrinka struck error after error.

The final score line read 6-2, 6-3, 6-1. The manner in which Nadal’s triumph came was as emphatic as the score suggested.

Nadal has now won Roland Garros 10 times and is a 15-time grand slam champion. He is now ahead of Pete Sampras and trails Roger Federer by three major titles.

Who said he was done!?
