Hsieh through in Nottingham

Nadal delighted with improvement on clay from Madrid to Rome during Tsitsipas win

Taiwan’s Hsieh Su-wei recorded an easy straight-sets win in the Round of 32 at the Aegon Open in Nottingham on Monday.

Hsieh, who enjoyed a decent run to the third round at Roland Garros, defeated Kristina Kucova of Slovakia 6-1, 6-4 in just over an hour.

She took the tie on her fourth match point to set up a Round of 16 meeting with either Lucie Safarova or Grace Min of the US.

In other action, two seeds crashed out as seventh seed Mona Barthel of France lost in three sets to Jana Fett of Croatia, while eighth seed Naomi Osaka of Japan won just two games in a 6-1, 6-1 defeat to Kristie Ahn of the US.

Britain’s Laura Robson was also a casualty, losing 6-3, 6-4 to Julia Boserup of the US.

Number one seed and world number six Johanna Konta of Britain, who suffered a first round exit in Paris at the hands of Hsieh, will open her account on Tuesday when she plays compatriot Tara Moore.
