Rory McIlroy has been somewhat below his best at the WGC-HSBC Champions in Shanghai so far, having suffered from a bout of food poisoning earlier this week.
The four-time major winner carded a first round 68 at Sheshan International on Thursday, but followed that up with an even par 72 on Friday, having cancelled out his four birdies with four bogeys.
However, the world number three nearly scored a hole-in-one at the 224-yard, par-3 12th. His five-iron from the tee landed below and to the left of the flagstick but tracked directly towards the cup after landing. It seemed to have the right speed to find the cup but just missed to the left.
Here's clip of McIlroy's near-miss.
