It was clear from the outset that Rubin were playing for a draw and sat deep to avoid being hit on the counter attack.

The result was a frustrating first half for Jurgen Klopps charges, who did well to string passing moves together on a bouncy surface that made it tricky for both teams.

Ibe came desperately close to giving Liverpool the lead in first half injury time, but his deflected shot was well saved by Sergey Ryzhikov who did brilliantly to readjust himself and tip the ball over the bar.

However, the visitors got their breakthrough in the 52nd minute as Ibe broke from inside the hosts' half taking the ball into the box and neatly tucking the ball past Ryzhikov.

After the goal, Rubin began to push for a way back into the game, but all it did was create more space for Liverpool who continued to dominate the game.

Ibe nearly added a second after being fed through by Adam Lallana, but this time Ryzhikov was equal to the shot and kept his side in the game.

There were some nervy moments late on as Liverpool conceded a couple of needless fouls in their own half to create some unnecessary pressure on themselves, but ultimately were able to hang on for their first win in the Europa League group stage this season.
