There have been some rather bizarre run outs in cricket over the years, but perhaps no more so than Adam Zampa’s effort in the Big Bash League on Saturday.
Turning out for the Melbourne Stars against the Melbourne Renegades in Australia’s T20 competition, Zampa inadvertently ran out Peter Nevill at the non-striker’s end. He’s certainly not the first bowler to execute such a dismissal, however, his method of doing so was certainly unique!
The spinner was bowling to Renegades batsman Dwayne Bravo who played the ball down the ground only for the ball to deviate off Nevill’s bat and into the nose of the unsuspecting Zampa, with the ball then deflected onto the stumps. You have to see it to believe it…
Initially Nevill’s thoughts appeared to be only for Zampa’s well being, but the Australian wicketkeeper was then reminded that he had in fact been dismissed!
