Are United really that boring?

UFC Nashville: Anthony Pettis post-fight interview

According to Paul Scholes the Manchester United players and manager Louis van Gaal look bored. It seems some United fans may be too…

United are getting a bit of a pasting in the press and on social media at present, with the Red Devils’ uninspiring football the target of much criticism from pundits and glee from rival supporters. Saturday’s 1-0 victory over Sheffield United in the FA Cup was no different.

For the 10th match running United failed to score in the first half of a match at Old Trafford, and they had to wait until the 69th minute to register a shot on target. Many of the home supporters had left by the time Wayne Rooney scored an injury-time winner.

Scholes, who certainly wasn’t on Van Gaal’s Christmas list, told BT Sport of the game: “There just seems to be an acceptance of bad performances,” said the former United midfielder.

“Every time you come to Old Trafford you see negative football.”

He added: “The players looked bored themselves. There’s no spirit, there’s nobody having a go at each other, there’s no smiling, there’s no entertainment.

“I think even Van Gaal on the bench looks bored, but he’ll come out and say he’s happy.”

After the match, a less than complimentary video emerged on Twitter that showed what one United fan thought of his team’s showing…

After many trophy-laden years it’s a little harder to be a United support these days.
