CAS backs AFC decision on Al HIlal

Room for Improvement: Former Champions Kashima & Guangzhou must step up

The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) has dismissed Al Hilal's appeal against a ruling made by the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) with regards to the eligibility of an Al Ahli player.

Al Hilal believe that Al Ahli's Ossama Assaidi, who appeared in the second leg AFC Champions League semi-final match on October 20 between the two clubs, was not eligible to play in the fixture and as a result the United Arab Emirates club should lose their place in the competition final. Al Hilal have asserted that Assaidi was not registered with the UAE Football Association in accordance with its transfer rules.

The AFC rejected Al Hilal's initial protest and their subsequent appeal, with their decision now backed by CAS.

As a result, Al Ahli “remains qualified” for the upcoming final against Guangzhou Evergrande, with the first leg taking place on Saturday.
