Ovechkin reaches landmark in Capitals win

F1 British Grand Prix – Valtteri Bottas pole position lap

Alex Ovechkin scored his 500th NHL career goal as the Washington Capitals crushed the Ottawa Senators 7-1 on Sunday evening.

Ovechkin, who scored a brace in a win over New York Rangers last night, added two more goals, but it was his first that was the landmark moment as he became the fifth-fastest player to 500 goals.
He is the league's top scorer with 26 and nobody has scored more goals than him since 2005.

Justin Williams, T.J. Oshie, Zach Sill, Tom Wilson and Dmitry Orlov also scored in the rout.

Chicago Blackhawks made it seventh heaven as they beat Colorado Avalanche 6-3.

A seventh successive win was masterminded by four goals in the second period as Patrick Kane and Marian Hossa scored two goals apiece.

Sam Reinhart's hat-trick inspired a 4-2 success for Buffalo Sabres over Winnipeg Jets while Jon Merrill scored the go-ahead goal in New Jersey Devils' 2-1 win over Minnesota Wild.

Riley Sheahan's goal with less than four minutes of the final period remaining gave Detroit Red Wings a 2-1 success against Anaheim Ducks, while Florida Panthers did all their work in the first seven minutes of their encounter with Edmonton Oilers as they won 2-1 thanks to early goals from Jaromir Jagr and Jonathan Huberdeau.
