Juventus defender Giorgio Chiellini says the squad has rediscovered its identity after securing their ninth Serie A win in a row on Sunday.
After enduring a difficult start to the season, the Bianconeri have responded well and recovered their form to move up to second on the league table with a 2-1 win over Sampdoria last weekend.
“There are four of us there battling at the top and now there’s just one team ahead of us, but we’ve not achieved anything yet. We’re getting better with every game, we’ve rediscovered our solidity and identity,” he told journalists after the victory.
“In the first two months of the season we lacked the fighting spirit and togetherness that had seen us almost conquer Europe, but since the Sassuolo match, we’ve come on leaps and bounds as a squad. It’s the responsibility of us experienced players to help the new faces adapt and credit to them for having followed our lead.”
Turning his attentions to Sunday’s win at the Stadio Luigi Ferraris, Chiellini admitted that there were areas to work on after Sampdoria’s late rally might have earned them a draw from trailing 2-0 in the second half.
“[The Sampdoria win is] a crucial victory and we deserved the points, despite risking to not see out a match that we looked in control of.
“Today the team did a lot of good things, but a few errors also crept in that, on another day, could have been costly,” he concluded.
