Olympique Lyon head coach Bruno Genesio was happy with what he saw in his side’s 4-1 thrashing of Troyes, but admits they still have work to do.
OL finished last season in second place in Ligue 1, eight points behind the dominant Paris Saint-Germain, and were expected to be the Parisian’s nearest rivals again this term.
However, the club has struggled with consistency and therefore results all season and were in a disappointing ninth place ahead of the match against Troyes.
“I am satisfied with the result and by the performance at times. There are still a lot of things that we need to improve and that we can do much better,” Genesio said after the dominant win.
“We played very well in the first 30 minutes. We pressed very high up the park and pushed Troyes back. After that we started to struggle physically and that had an impact on us mentally. That allowed Troyes to come back into the game.
“The stadium is magnificent. On Thursday we came here to train. It was already beautiful when empty and when it is full of our supporters the atmosphere is impressive. The players enjoyed it and we have an extraordinary tool at our disposal.”
The result followed another excellent display in their 7-0 trouncing of Limoges in the Coupe de France last Sunday and Genesio wants to see more of the same going forward.
“Now it is up to us to start getting the kind of results that Olympique Lyonnais should be getting. We have had two wins in a row which should give us confidence before we play direct rivals in Saint-Etienne and Marseille,” he concluded.
