Cricket South Africa (CSA) can confirm that spinner Aaron Phangiso was thrown off a flight for being drunk on his way home from India last year.
The 31 year-old Phangiso was returning home from the subcontinent after the Proteas had won the ODI series in the Asian country in October.
The South African touring party arrived in Dubai and the Emirates Airline personnel refused to let the left-arm spinner board the flight to Johannesburg until he had sober up.
Haroon Lorgat, chief executive of CSA, told SACricketmag.com: "We confirm that Aaron Phangiso pleaded guilty to contravening our player code of conduct and has been sanctioned.
"We take disciplinary issues seriously especially with our national players, who are important role models for our youth and ambassadors for our country."
Although a CSA spokesman refused to say what action had been taken against the slow bowler, Phangiso has been dropped for the upcoming five-match ODI series against England.
