Williams powers past Hsieh

World number one Serena Williams breezed into the third round of the Australian Open after making light work of Su-Wei Hsieh 6-1, 6-2.

The top seed entered the first grand slam of the year under something of an injury cloud after pulling out of the Hopman Cup due to a knee injury, but appeared not to be worried by the injury in her first round victory over Camila Giorgi, and she was back to her best against Hsieh on Wednesday.

Williams got off to a blistering start and she broke Hsieh in the second game to race out to a 3-0 lead. With Hsieh struggling to put up a fight, Williams took full advantage and broke the 30-year-old once again in the sixth game before closing out the first set in just 28 minutes.

The second set followed a similar script as Williams broke Hsieh right off the bat and again in the third game to take a 4-0 lead. Hsieh stemmed the bleeding by holding her serve twice, but she was unable to stop her inevitable downfall.

Williams was simply too much for Hsieh to handle, with the top seed winning 85 percent of her points on her first serve, while hitting 26 winners.

Williams will play Daria Kasatkina in the third round after the 18-year-old Russian defeated Ana Konjuh 6-4, 6-3.
