Radwanska ends Bouchard’s challenge

Agnieszka Radwanska sent a message of intent to her title rivals at the Australian Open with a devastating second-round display that ended Eugenie Bouchard’s tournament on Wednesday night.

The Canadian threw everything at Radwanska early on but the women’s fourth seed survived the initial onslaught and ended up winning the entertaining encounter 6-4, 6-2.

After a number of momentum shifts in the opening stages of the match, an emphatic forehand on the rise earned the Pole the first set.

Bouchard’s 23 unforced errors proved costly. However, the aggression that led to those errors was also the aggression that saw Radwanska put under serious pressure at times.

The 26-year-old then broke Bouchard in the very first game of the second set and never looked back from there as she cruised into the third round by claiming the second set 6-2.
