Victor Estrella Burgos retained his Ecuador Open title in Quito following a gruelling 4-6, 7-6 (5), 6-2 come-from-behind win over Thomaz Bellucci.
Having been beaten by Burgos in the last four of the event last year, Bellucci would have been hoping to gain an element of revenge over his Dominican opponent – who downed Feliciano Lopez in the 2015 final – and his quest got off to a promising start. In a close first set it was Bellucci who grabbed the lone break of serve in the ninth game which saw him take the opener.
Neither player could engineer an advantage in the second set, with a tiebreaker required to separate the pair. This time it was Burgos who edged ahead, taking the breaker 7-5 to force a decider.
Having brought himself back into contention, Burgos shifted his game to the next level in the third set and dominated Bellucci, breaking him twice en route to winning his second ATP singles title.
