Rudi Völler has called on Leverkusen to produce a repeat of their performance against Bayern München when they face Bremen in the DFB Cup quarter-final on Tuesday.
Roger Schmidt’s men produced a committed performance at BayArena on Saturday evening as they held the Bundesliga leaders to a goalless draw.
They will be aiming to seal their place in the final four of Germany’s domestic cup when they welcome Bremen to BayArena on Tuesday evening.
“We’re in with a great chance of making the last four. We’ll need the same passion we showed against Bayern,” sporting director Völler told the club’s official website.
Bremen are currently struggling at the wrong end of the Bundesliga table, but Leverkusen head coach Roger Schmidt insists he will not underestimate them.
“We’re up against a very good team even though Bremen suffered a heavy defeat at Gladbach,” he told reporters.
“Werder stood up to big teams like Schalke and Hertha. Bremen concede a lot of chances but they also create a lot themselves and are capable of turning games round. That’s what makes that team so dangerous.”
He added: “Both the team and myself want to win this competition. We were lucky with the draw in the early rounds but we dealt convincingly with the lower league opposition.
“There are no second chances in the Cup, either you go through or you go out. That is how we will approach this one-off game.”
