Chinese side Shandong Luneng have put together a $50.5 million squad to face Adelaide United in their AFC Champions League match scheduled for Tuesday night in Adelaide.
With a squad made up of the likes of Brazilian international Diego Tardelli, Gil from Corinthians, Argentine international Walter Montillo, Brazil’s Jucilei and former Selecao national team coach Mano Menezes, Adelaide’s hopes of causing an upset could be legitimised by the fact that Shandong have only played one pre-season game so far.
Adelaide captain and goalkeeper Eugene Galekovic believes if his side plays their usual possession-based game anything can happen this early in the Champions League campaign.
In an interview with The Advertiser, Galekovic said they would not be changing too much from their regular game plan.
“We won’t change too much, we’ve seen a lot of them today (on DVD),” Galekovic said.
“We’re not changing the whole game to suit the game tomorrow we’re going to play our way.
“The biggest difference is you play A-League opposition and you make a few mistakes you might get away with it.
“Against a team like Shandong you make a couple of mistakes and you’ll probably get punished if we give the ball away in certain areas.
“We’ve got to try to keep the ball and not give them the chance to punish us, that’s the biggest thing,” he added.
