CM Punk has first UFC opponent

Phil Brooks, known by most as CM Punk, now has an opponent for his first UFC bout after Mickey Gall defeated Mike Jackson at UFC Fight Night 82 in Las Vegas on Saturday.

It took Gall just 45 seconds to achieve a first-round submission win against Jackson. It was always understood that the former would get to fight Brooks if he was victorious at UFC Fight Night 82.

Dana White, UFC president, tweeted afterwards: “It’s on!!!!! @CMPunk vs @MickeyGall.”

The conclusion of the bout saw Brooks enter the octagon and square up with his future opponent.

“I said to him up there, ‘that’s the way you wanted to win’, he said ‘I plan on continuing that’. I said ‘good for you, good for you’,” Brooks revealed.

“It’s going to be harder [not knowing much about my opponent], but I’m more of a mystery than he is, though.

“No disrespect to Mike Jackson or anything like that, but he just didn’t protect his neck.

“He was more worried about the hook. I’ve been there. I’ve been in positions where I was trying to punch guys, where I need to worry about the submission that is being locked on.”

However, despite Brooks’ obvious enthusiasm to take part in the UFC for the first time, the date or venue for his fight with Gall have not yet been confirmed.

“I have a fight now. I have a face. I have a name. We don’t have a date, but we are working on that.

“I’m just excited, and I’m happy.”
