Sporting, Rayo play to 2-2 draw

Balotelli trains with Brescia after signing for home town club

Jozabed Sanchez's second-half strike saw Rayo Vallecano earn a 2-2 draw at Sporting Gijon in La Liga on Friday night.

The hosts grabbed the lead in only the fifth minute of the match when a defensive error gifted a chance to Miguel Gerrero, who slotted the ball in the back of the net from close range.

A smart save from Rayo goalkeeper Juan Carlos prevented Ismael Lopez Blanco from doubling the lead inside 15 minutes, and the visitors gradually started playing themselves into the game.

The scores were level six minutes before the break, Pablo Hernandez finding Venezuelan striker Miku, who converted from inside the box to make it 1-1.

Rayo would have been happy to go into the break all square, but Sporting would retake the lead in the first minute of extra time.

Alen Halilovic collected a superb pass inside the box and fired the ball past the goalkeeper to make it 2-1.

Carlos Carmona should have added a third for Sporting eight minutes after the break after latching on to a rebound, but his shot was wide.

The home side were made to pay for that miss five minutes later, as Jozabed Sanchez met a beautiful cross and found the target from inside the area to level the scores once more.

Rayo had several chances to snatch a third goal in the final 10 minutes, including a great shot from Adri Embarba that hit the post, but they weren't able to find the winner.
