St Louis Blues secured a 5-3 victory over Florida Panthers at the BB&T Center, where Jaden Schwartz scored on his return from injury.

Schwartz missed 49 games with an ankle injury and scored to put the Blues 2-1 up in the first period after team-mate David Backes had cancelled out Derek MacKenzie's opening goal for Florida.

Robby Fabbri and Vladimir Tarasenko then put the Blues 4-1 up before the Panthers rallied through Aaron Ekblad and Jonathan Huberdeau.

But Alexander Steen's 16th goal of the season for St Louis made sure of victory.

Anze Kopitar scored a hat-trick and Tanner Pearson got the overtime winner to give Los Angeles Kings a 5-4 overtime win over New York Rangers at Madison Square Garden.

Kopitar completed his hat-trick with just 30 seconds left in regulation time before Pearson settled the game 3:10 into overtime.

Tyler Johnson scored the winner 1:04 into overtime to earn Tampa Bay Lightning a 4-3 win over Nashville Predators at Amalie Arena after Lightning captain Steven Stamkos had tied it with 27 seconds left on the clock.

Blake comeau got the winner in the fourth round of the shootout to give Colorado Avalanche a 3-2 victory over Detroit Red Wings and Kris Letang's shooutout winner saw Pittsburgh Penguins beat Carolina Hurricanes 2-1.

Marcus Foligno scored two goals and added an assist to help Buffalo Sabres to a 6-4 win over Montreal Canadiens, while Shane Doan scored twice in Arizona Coyotes' 4-1 win over Calgary Flames.
