Vinci beats Ivanovic in St Petersburg

Murray beaten by Sandgren in latest match of comeback in Winston-Salem Open

Roberta Vinci was a 7-5, 6-4 winner over Ana Ivanovic in the semi-finals of the St. Petersburg Ladies Trophy on Saturday.

The Italian found herself 3-0 down in the first set but hit back with two breaks of her own to claim the first set before wrapping up the second with another solitary break.

Vinci made just 12 unforced errors to Ivanovic’s 29, and said she was delighted to reach the final of the inaugural St. Petersburg tournament after winning an “incredible match”.

Awaiting Vinci in the final is up-and-coming 18-year-old Belinda Bencic.

The Swiss star was a 6-4, 6-3 winner over fellow 18-year-old Daria Kasatkina of Russia.
