Richard Gasquet will face fiery young Aussie Nick Kyrgios in the quarter-finals of the Open 13 in Marseille after both men won their second-round matches on Thursday.
Kyrgios was up against Russian Teymuraz Gabashvili, winning the contest 6-4 6-4 thanks to a solitary break of serve in each set.
Third-seeded Gasquet was in action against Ernests Gulbis of Latvia, clinching a tight first set via a tie-break before breaking three more times in the second for a 7-6 (7-5), 6-3 victory.
Also advancing on the day was Russian Andrey Kuznetsov, who ended the run of local 19-year-old Quentin Halys with a 6-0 6-4 victory, and eighth seed Benoit Paire, who beat French countryman Vincent Millot 6-3 1-6 6-3.
Second seed Tomas Berdych was in action in the final match of the day, facing a surprisingly stern test from 18-year-old German Alexander Zverev before prevailing 6-3 3-6 7-5.
