New Orleans Pelicans point guard Norris Cole will be sidelined for the immediate future after he sprained his ankle during a practice session on Sunday.

Pelicans head coach Alvin Gentry revealed that Cole's injury occurred when one his team-mates stepped on his ankle.

"It’s one of those freak things that happened in practice," Gentry told reporters. "He got stepped on. The ankle is hurting. We’ll see how long it takes to get him back.

"It also comes down a lot to the player and how much pain he can stand. I don’t know if we have a specific timeline for when he’ll be back. We’ll see once we get another update how long that projection is."

Cole, who was traded to the Pelicans from the Miami Heat in February, averaged 9.9 points, 1.8 rebounds and 3.2 assists in the 28 games he played for the New Orleans outfit.
