Leon Camier was fastest at the end of the first hour of Free Practice as the World Superbike Championship stops off in Thailand this week.
The Brit posted a fastest lap of 1.36.047 at the Chang International Circuit, three tenths quicker than Honda's Nicky Hayden.
Defending world champion Jonathan Rea was the third fastest, failing to continue his form from Phillip Island where he won both sessions.
Rea's Kawasaki teammate Michael van der Mark was fourth fastest, with Tom Sykes rounding out the top five on his Kawasaki.
Further down the timesheet, Jordi Torres crashed his Althea BMW on turn one before rejoining the action, while Chaz Davies was disappointed with his 15th place finish.
The second Free Practice will take place later on Friday.
