The future is looking bright in the Taft side as the De La Salle Green Archers just made the David and Goliath of UAAP Juniors team up, forming a lethal combination in the coming years.
After securing Season 78 MVP Aljun Melecio, La Salle swiped in another blue-chip recruit in Bullpups giant and Finals MVP Justine Baltazar.
The development was confirmed by new head coach Aldin Ayo, noting that collegiate hoop fans might wait another year to witness the enemies-turned-teammates play together for the Green and White.
It will be worth the wait though for Aljun Melecio, who was delighted when the news of Baltazar taking his talent to La Salle broke out.
“Masarap,” described Melecio on his new teammate. “Ang sarap ng buhay na may rebounder ka.”
The sweet-shooting Melecio led La Salle Zobel in reaching the junior finals this season, but failed to measure up Baltazar’s Bullpups.
“Sobrang excited akong makasama si Justine sa La Salle kasi sobrang rivals kami sa UAAP (Juniors) so excited ako sa tandem namin,” shared Melecio.
Baltazar’s transfer did not come as surprise for Melecio, however, as he heard rumors right after their Game 1 loss in the finals.
“After nung game 1, grabe yung pinakita niya (Baltazar), tapos nandun pa si coach Aldin. May narinig ako na lilipat raw siya,” he revealed.
With La Salle stacking up highly-touted talents after failing to make it in the Final Four last season, Melecio is confident that his rival will make an immediate impact for coach Ayo.
“Sure akong magstandout siya run, magaling siya, sobrang tangkad, tapos marunong siyang gumamit ng height niya,” said Melecio, who has been attending practice for La Salle last week. – By Jason Mercene
