Sharks attack Rangers; Blue Jackets milestone

The San Jose Sharks enjoyed a fruitful third period to earn a 4-1 win over the New York Rangers in the NHL.

The game was tied at 1-1 after the opening two periods, but the Sharks rallied and plundered three goals in just three minutes and 20 seconds in the final period. Joel Ward added to his earlier strike while Joe Thornton and Joe Pavelski also found the net.

Oliver Bjorkstrand scored his first two NHL goals in a 6-3 win for the Columbus Blue Jackets against the New Jersey Devils.

The rookie netted twice in the final period, including the go-ahead goal at 4-3, as the Blue Jackets finished strongly in an entertaining encounter, giving John Tortorella a win in his 1,000th game as a coach.

The Detroit Red Wings rallied from 3-1 down in the second period to claim a 5-3 win over the Florida Panthers while the Pittsburgh Penguins claimed a fifth straight victory by seeing off the Philadelphia Flyers 4-1.

The Minnesota Wild earned a 3-2 shootout victory over the Carolina Hurricanes, the Montreal Canadiens were routed 5-0 by the Ottawa Senators, the Toronto Maple Leafs beat the Buffalo Sabres 4-1 and the Dallas Stars beat the New York Islanders 3-0.

There was a win for the St Louis Blues over the Vancouver Canucks by the same scoreline while the Tampa Bay Lightning downed the Arizona Coyotes 2-0 and the LA Kings beat the Boston Bruins 2-1 to earn a post-season play-off place.
