- Augsburg 1 Dortmund 3
- Finnbogason fires Augsburg in front
- Mkhitaryan levels matters on stroke of half-time
- Castro hands Dortmund the lead
- Ramos makes sure of the result
The hosts drew first blood as Alfred Finnbogason converted from close range in the 16th minute following some good work in the build-up by Caiuby.
Just when it look like they would head into the half-time break with a slender advantage, Henrikh Mkhitaryan slotted home from the centre of the box on the stroke of half-time to restore parity.
And Dortmund picked up where the left off in the first half as Gonzalo Castro eventually fired Die Borussen ahead in the 69th minute, before Adrián Ramos slotted home following a corner in the 75th minute to put the result beyond doubt.
The first half started at a cautious tempo but sprang to life in the seventh minute when Caiuby saw his shot from the centre of the box saved in the top-right corner by Dortmund keeper Roman Burki.
Caiuby was proving to be a livewire in attack and his contribution proved to be crucial in the 16th minute as he teed up Finnbogason for the simplest of finishes after making a driving run down the left flank.
Dortmund created a handful of chances in response to falling behind but failed to make their chances count as the first half wore on.
In fact, it was Augsburg who very nearly grabbed a second in the 40th minute when Ja-Cheol Koo’s goal-bound effort was kept out by Burki, Caiuby again involved in the build-up.
However, Dortmund eventually woke from their slumber in the closing stages of the first half as Marco Reus forced Augsburg keeper Alex Manninger into action in the 41st minute. And with the match heading into added-on time, Mkhitaryan popped up to slot home from the centre of the box after latching onto a neat pass from Nuri Sahin.

Dortmund continued to pile forward after the half-time break and after a series of half-chances, claimed the lead in the 69th minute when Castro collected a pass from Ramos before firing into the bottom-right corner from the centre of the danger area.
Augsburg had a glorious opportunity to draw level in the 73rd minute, but Jeong-Ho Hong directed his headed effort straight at Burki, who gratefully clutched the ball to his chest.
Hong was made to rue that squandered chance as, just two minutes later, Ramos smashed home with a left-footed shot from close range following a well worked corner.
And that proved to be the last goalmouth action of note as Dortmund saw out the remainder of the match with ease, claiming all three points to remain within five points of Pep Guardiola’s Bayern at the top of the Bundesliga table.
