Sharapova hearing could be in June

Former world number one Maria Sharapova could face a disciplinary hearing over her drug violation in June.

According to Russian Tennis Federation president Shamil Tarpishchev, Sharapova’s disciplinary hearing for doping could be put off until June but added that this was not official.

On March 7, the Russian tennis star confirmed at a press conference in Los Angeles that she has failed a drug test at the Australian Open, having knowingly taken Meldonium for the last decade.

The drug was first placed on the banned list on January 1, 2016.

The 28-year-old has been provisionally suspended from the sport by the International Tennis Federation and also faces a possible four-year ban.

Sharapova’s major sponsors Tag Heuer, Nike and Porsche have distanced themselves from her since the announcement.
