Park to take one-month break

Bizarre eagle for Angel Yin in LPGA event

World number two Inbee Park has decided to take a one-month hiatus in order to rest and recuperate ahead of some of the bigger LPGA events and the 2016 Olympic Games.

Park has also been playing with a strained ligament in her left thumb since suffering the injury while training in January and will take the time off to make a full recovery.

The South Korea ace has struggled this year and has only finished in the top 10 twice – at the Kia Classic where she came second, and the ANA Inspiration where she finished in a tie for sixth.

However, despite her disappointing performances thus far, Park is still well on track to qualify for the Olympics in Rio de Janeiro as as such can afford to take some time off.

“As she is not in a hurry to secure a spot at the Olympics, Park will take some time to return to top form,” her agency said.

The 27-year-old will miss the Swinging Skirts LPGA Classic, Volunteers of America Texas Shootout and the Yokohama Tire LPGA Classic. However, she is expected to make her comeback at the Kingsmill Championship in Williamsburg, Virginia on May 20.
