Manchester United have confirmed defender Luke Shaw has undergone a second successful operation on his double leg fracture.
The England international suffered the horrific injury during the Red Devils' 2-1 Champions League defeat to Group B rivals PSV Eindhoven on Tuesday following a crushing challenge from Hector Moreno just 15 minutes into the match.
The 20-year-old underwent immediate surgery on his tibia and fibula and has once again gone under the knife in a bid to prevent any permanent damage and aid in the recovery process.
"His family is there, we have sent people with him and he will come back when he is prepared. Maybe tomorrow," said Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal.
"I called him last night; he sounds very strong, which was amazing for me – a big surprise.
"It is a good signal, but he knows he has long way to go and it is not easy. He will have a long period of rehabilitation [when he is back] and he has a long way to go."
