Alvarez ready for Khan’s speed

Pacquiao ignores Thurman’s insults at news conference ahead of fight

WBC middleweight champion Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez says he is prepared to deal with challenger Amir Khan’s speed and movement when they fight on May 7 in Las Vegas, Nevada.

The only loss for the Mexican boxing icon in 48 fights was against Floyd Mayweather in September 2013 over 12 rounds. Mayweather used speed and movement to get the points decision win.

Speaking at a public workout this week, Alvarez said he expects Khan to fight in similar fashion to Mayweather but is prepared to deal with it come fight night.

“Every fighter is different, every fighter brings different skills and you have to adjust for that,” said Alvarez.

“For Amir, we have focused on increasing my hand speed, counter punching and preparing for lots of movement and footwork.

“We believe Amir will adopt a similar style to Floyd Mayweather Jr and Erislandy Lara; however, we have made sure that I am prepared for that style of boxing and anything he brings to the table to not be surprised on fight night.”
