Guangzhou Evergrande captain Zheng Zhi is backing his side to get past Japan’s Kashiwa Reysol on Tuesday and secure their place in the AFC Champions League semi-finals.
The 2013 champions are defending a 3-1 lead after their superb victory in the first leg, and will have the benefit of playing at the Tianhe Stadium in Guangzhou.
Luiz Felipe Scolari’s side are also coming off a 3-0 win over rivals Shanghai SIPG at the weekend, which saw them move top of the Chinese Super League table, so confidence is riding high.
“We just finished the match against Shanghai and we only arrived in Guangzhou on Sunday afternoon, but after the win against Shanghai, we have a lot of confidence for the second leg although we know we will face a strong team,” said Zheng, who was named AFC Player of the Year in 2013.
“I believe a lot is in our favour including the ability of the head coach, the players, and the staff. We have a good head coach and new foreign players, all the team is fighting as one. We can unite and fight as one and our momentum is favorable, and if we can win, we will keep our momentum high.
“We hope to show that Guangzhou can win in difficult times and easy times, and no matter that we won the previous game 3-1, we will handle the next game seriously and prove we are a mature team.”
