Carolina Marin and Li Xuerui were bundled out at the quarter-final stage of the Japan Open on Friday.
Seventh seed Wang Shixian came back from a game down to defeat the top seeded Marin 13-21, 21-19, 21-15 on the courts of the Tokyo Metropolitan Gymnasium.
After dominating the opening game, Marin lost her way in the second game and was completely outplayed in the final game.
Third seed Li Xuerui was the next upset of the day, losing 21-19, 13-21, 21-16 to Japanese hopeful Akane Yamaguchi.

Shixian and Yamaguchi will face each other in the first semi-final on Saturday.
