Newcastle United are still interested in signing Hamburger SV striker Pierre-Michel Lasogga, according to reports in the English press.
The Magpies are said to have been keeping tabs on the 23-year-old last season, with a view to making an offer for the striker if Papiss Cisse departed the club.
However, Cisse didn't depart St James' Park in the recently concluded transfer window, but Newcastle could revive their interest in Lasogga when the January transfer window opens.
Hamburger SV have reportedly quoted Steve McClaren's side a fee of £9 million for Lasogga, which is thought to be more than Newcastle are willing to part with.
Lasogga, who has represented the Germany U-21 side 11 times, joined Hamburger SV on a five-year deal in the summer of 2014 following a successful year-long loan spell at Volksparkstadion.
He struggled to match the exploits of his loan spell, though, scoring just four times in 24 appearances last season.
So far this season, Lasogga has scored one goal and created two chances in three Bundesliga games for Hamburger SV.
