BVB Dortmund Mats Hummels insists a move away from the Signal Iduna Park would not hinge on any financial incentive.
Defender Hummels caused a media storm during the off-season after revealing he was considering his options amidst rumours linking him with a move to Manchester United.
Under contract until 2017, Hummels eventually snubbed a move to Old Trafford despite reports of a significant transfer fee and the Germany international insists he has nothing to prove to those who criticised him for keeping his options open.
"Money will never play a decisive role in a move," the 26-year-old is quoted as saying by ESPN FC.
"Those were just my thoughts at the time. And I received enormous feedback. I also got a lot of negative reactions, even though I did not leave the club. You get to know a few more insults.
"I have been at Dortmund for eight years now, and I am certainly not someone who has to prove that he doesn't bunk off like that."
