Al-Khelaifi: Cavani can fill Zlatan void

VfB Stuttgart or Union Berlin – Who will secure their spot in 2019/2020 Bundesliga season?

Paris Saint-Germain president Nasser Al-Khelaifi reckons Edinson Cavani can step into the gaping void left by Zlatan Ibrahimovic's departure at Parc des Princes.

Ibrahimovic announced last week that he would be leaving PSG at the end of the campaign and he signed off in style on Saturday by bagging a brace in a 4-2 win over Marseille to lift the Coupe de France trophy.

The Swedish star scored 180 goals in four seasons for Les Parisiens, with his double against L'OM taking his tally to 51 for 2015/16, which saw Laurent Blanc's side win all three domestic trophies for a second successive year.

Cavani was also on target in the Stade de France showpiece and finished the season with 24 goals in all competitions, despite not playing in his favoured centre-forward position.

The French champions have already been linked with a whole host of players to replace Ibrahimovic, but Al-Khelaifi claims they already have one, as they look to conquer Europe next term.

"Who to replace Ibrahimovic? Remember we already have a great striker at the club – it's Edinson Cavani," Al-Khelaifi told RMC Sport.

"Our goal is to win all the trophies, I hope that next year, it will be the Champions League. This is our big goal, this is our dream. We will try to do so. We are close, it is not far."
