Play-off trouble for De Graafschap

Go Ahead Eagles' promotion celebrations were marred when De Graafschap fans attacked their players after the 1-1 draw at De Vijverberg on Sunday.

The Deventer outfit suffered relegation from the Eredivisie last season, but they made a swift return via the promotion-relegation play-offs after finishing fifth in Dutch football's second tier this term.

Hans de Koning's side won the tie 5-2 on aggregate, having beaten the Superboeren 4-1 in the first leg, and his players came under attack from opposition supporters, who stormed the pitch after the final whistle.

Television footage showed the Eagles players being escorted to safety by stewards during the chaotic scenes, with the Dutch FA subsequently confirming that video evidence has been sent to the governing body's disciplinary panel.

De Graafschap condemned the shocking actions of their fans and said in a statement that "we will solve this with security staff and the police."
