Newcastle United v Arsenal

Highlights – VfL Wolfsburg vs FC Augsburg

Arsenal will be hoping for more consistency when they travel to St James' Park to face Newcastle in the Premier League on Saturday.

The Gunners kicked off the 2015/16 top-flight campaign with a shock 2-0 home loss against West Ham, before bouncing back with a 2-1 win away to Crystal Palace, but they were unable to maintain that momentum as they were held to a goalless draw against Liverpool on Monday.

That shaky start has left Arsene Wenger's ninth in the standings, already five points adrift of leaders Manchester City at this early stage of the campaign.

Newcastle, meanwhile, have had an even harder time of it, with Steve McClaren's men having taken just two points from their opening three fixtures, although their goalless draw at Manchester United last time out can definitely be viewed as a positive result.

However, with just goal difference keeping the Magpies out of the relegation zone, fans will already be fearing a long and treacherous campaign ahead, although their 4-1 Capital One Cup hammering of Northampton Town on Tuesday, coupled with another strong showing against a top-four contender this weekend, could restore the faith on Tyneside.

On the team front, the hosts could have Moussa Sissoko fit for selection after recovering a groin strain, while Daryl Janmaat is available after serving a ban last weekend.

New signing Florian Thauvin, meanwhile, will be hoping for his full Premier League debut at home, having put in a sterling performance in the League Cup, opening the scoring with a volley before setting up his side's other three goals.

For Arsenal, Per Mertesacker and Laurent Koscielny could again miss out, with the former suffering from illness while the latter has a back strain.

That means Callum Chambers and Gabriel could again line up in the centre of defence, while Mathieu Debuchy will also be hoping to play some part.

Danny Welbeck, though, is set to miss out again as he continues to struggle with a knee injury, while Jack Wilshere is only expected back mid-September.
