Tanduay Rhum Masters gave the debuting Blustar Detergent Dragons an early dose of the Philippine brand of basketball by bullying them to a 94-71 blowout win in the PBA D-League Foundation Cup at the JCSGO Gym on Monday.
The Rhum Masters roared to a lethal 25-3 blow in the 1st quarter that was already telling to their lopsided victory over the visiting Blustar, who are mostly composed of Malaysian national team players.
All but one scored for Tanduay, who led by as much as 36 points in the game but head coach Lawrence Chongson wanted to put a proper perspective of what has transpired in their second win in the tourney.
“Maybe lang naman, against other heavyweights dito sa D-League, baka ganito rin kalabasan, baka nga mas masahol pa,” said Chongson, though adding the Dragons may still be adjusting to the new territory they are playing.
“But sa amin, wala yun, not unless we’ve seen other teams play against them,” he added as his Rhum Masters bounced back from their previous sorry loss against Phoenix.
Val Acuna led the relentless attack against the Malaysian side with 14 points while Jeffrey Javillonar and Reden Celdan came through with 13 and 11, respectively, for Tanduay.
Coming off the bench, big man Kuek Tian Yuan tried all he can to bridge the gap with his 23 points but to no avail as they struggled to control the ball after committing 33 turnovers. – By Jason Mercene
