  • Leicester 1 Tottenham 1
  • England boss Roy Hodgson in the stands
  • Harry Kane struggles to make an impact
  • Sub Dele Alli opens scoring for Spurs
  • Riyad Mahrez scores superb equaliser

Match Summary

Claudio Ranieri's Foxes flew out of the traps with wins over Sunderland and West Ham, while Spurs have been sluggish in losing to Manchester United and drawing with Stoke at home.

But there was little between the two teams in the East Midlands on Saturday, with England boss Roy Hodgson watching on from the stands.

Dele Alli came off the bench for Spurs and broke the deadlock on 81 minutes when he headed home Nacer Chadli's cross from close range.

But Tottenham's lead only lasted a minute as the impressive Riyad Mahrez ran at Jan Vertonghen, beat him easily and curled a left-footed strike into the bottom corner.

Spurs weathered an early storm from the hosts, and Mousa Dembele had the first on-target shot of the game, testing Kasper Schmeichel from 25 yards out.

Harry Kane nearly scored when he charged down a Schmeichel clearance – but the ball spun wide of the post much to the City keeper's relief.

The Londoners dominated in possession but Marc Albrighton posed a real threat on the break and will have caught Hodgson's eye with some impressive wing play.

Eric Dier headed an Erik Lamela corner over the crossbar and Schmeichel saved another long-range strike from Dembele.

But Leicester had a big penalty shout turned down just before the break, when Vertonghen seemed to bring down Mahrez only for Martin Atkinson to wave play on.

In the second half, Chadli sliced a great chance wide of the target before Danny Drinkwater steered a low shot into the sidenetting.

Mahrez thumped a low strike against the upright with Hugo Lloris beaten, and that prompted Mauricio Pochettino to send on Alli for Lamela.

That move was rewarded with 10 minutes left when the sub bravely headed home a fine cross from Chadli at the far post.

But the visitors were undone immediately after taking the lead, with Mahrez going on a fine solo run before outwitting Vertonghen and curling home a sublime equaliser.
