Garcia targets title challenge

Roma manager Rudi Garcia believes his squad will be more competitive in Serie A this season following their runners-up finish to Juventus last term.

The Giallorossi were well off the pace set by Juve in 2014/15 and completed the campaign a massive 17 points behind Massimilano Allegri's men, who secured their fourth straight Scudetto in comfortable fashion.

Despite not challenging the Old Lady for the title, Garcia's team did manage an impressive club record of 10 wins in a row and the Frenchman says he hopes to topple that feat this term before predicting a much more competitive season this time around.

“We will beat our record of 10 consecutive victories because records are made to be broken,” Garcia told Corriere dello Sport.

“People haven’t spoken much about Napoli but they are a good team with a strong attack and they’ve added some good players in the summer such as Allan, Valdifiori and Chiriches.

“There are other interesting teams – the Milanese clubs are returning."
